otherwise known as flip-flops.

This may be somewhat of an inappropriate post but I am rather bothered right now. During my Role of a Biblical Woman class this morning, our professor educated us on the horrors of certain lingerie. She assured us that a godly man would never want his wife to dress in such a way.

Abercrombie sells these…types…to girls of 12 and under and she began railing on the company. I couldn’t help but shake my head at her inane accusations. When I was a little girl my mother never taught me that feminine lingerie was bad. It was part of being ladylike.

My professor went on to say that these little girls are being exploited and “trashed.” The only people that think that are those like her- who are exceptionally horrified at the thought of a young girl dressing femininely. *Side note: No one even sees this type of clothing!!* Is there a certain age when it’s perfectly acceptable for a child/teen to begin wearing this type of clothing? You dress the cute plump baby in a nice white Sunday frock complete with white lacy panties. However we will most quickly place her in Plain Jane whiteties until she is mature enough to choose between the disgusting tramp-like lacy clothing and the godly granny types.

I had all of these thoughts swirling about in my head as I climbed the stairs of the FMA to my chapel seat. As I neared Aisle 4, my eyes glanced over at the statues. *sigh* We women are taught that if one must have a slit in her skirt (one that is below the knee of course) she must wear dark colored hosiery. Light colored hose will cause a bolder flash of the lower part of the woman’s leg and obviously that is grievous. However, the sensuous bronze statues that adorn the FMA are seen as beauty. (I’m not arguing against these mind you, for they are quite lovely.) They lift their arms high over their heads and their bronze clinging gowns are half-on half-off the curves of their bodies. By the way, I wonder if the DOW checked those gowns before they were placed in the FMA.

I sense a strong double-standard here and a leaning towards teaching this “culture” and not “Biblical Femininity.” On the other hand, what should I expect from a society that treasures a woman’s 4ft long tresses and face not tarnished with make-up.
