Charity cannot keep a secret. We were shopping at April Cornell awhile back when I found the cutest table runner. It was black velour with red poppies embroidered along the ends. We both marveled at the low price and I admired it for several minutes before dashing to buy it. After we got home and began looking through our purchases, I pulled out the table runner again. I wrapped it around my neck like a scarf just to be funny- when we both realized it was a really good-looking scarf.

So, it became a scarf instead of a table runner. I swore her to secrecy and I’ve worn it on several occasions since then. Tonight I grabbed it while I was running out the door to church. As I found my seat at church tonight I saw Charity look at my scarf and smirk. She’s my best friend…but she’s also a feisty sneak. (I can say that because she doesn’t read my blog…hehehe)

After church tonight, everyone was doing their regular mingling-and-chatting-about-the-latest-news when I heard someone say that they loved my scarf. They weren’t speaking to me so I pretended not to hear them. That’s when Charity whispered quite loudly, “Oh, that’s really a table runner.”

I tried to explain but everyone was laughing too hard. It’s really a pretty table runner and if you saw me on the street- honest, you wouldn’t know the difference.

This afternoon all of the bridesmaids for Jenn’s wedding met at Dimitra’s and were fitted. The lady who measured me really got on my nerves. She is Greek…and all I could think of was My Big Fat Greek Wedding. She was hustling everyone about, shouting orders and behaving like a real mess. I had to restrain myself when she invaded my personal space one too many times. She kept rubbing my shirt and saying, “Oooh, I love this black leopard print.” Woman! Get your hands off me!

Ashley and Jenn asked me to go downtown with them for supper. I was the first one to get a good parking place and I stepped out of my car and just walked around a bit while waiting for them to find a spot. I soon realized that standing on the street corner is not a good idea. Thankfully, Jenn and Ashley finally dashed up the sidewalk and we went and had supper.

Pharyngitis plus a cold makes for a miserable time. I am beginning to have a chronic case of the sniffles and I keep losing my voice. The smallest thing is getting on my nerves and if you happen to look at me the wrong way I might just bite your head off. I feel feisty one minute and quite pitiful the next. I need some hot chamomile tea.

I’d like to feel better, please.

sigh.

Discouragement can leap on your back quicker than a mosquito in the heat of summer. And then you remember that nights, pain, grief, fear, foolish disbelief, tears, sin and frustration will be gone one day. One of these days…I’ll see the hands that took the nails for me.
