good news.

As I was walking across the bridge formerly known as the Bridge of Nations, someone tapped me on the shoulder. Since I wasn’t wearing my red scarf that everyone pets I was surprised. It was Anna. She bought her dress and she’s finalizing all the details for June 12 when she is tying the knot with Travis.

Speaking of knot tying, my old childhood friend Jason (another one! Hehe) is getting married on Dec. 6. I can’t believe it.

Charity will be home for three weeks instead of just one! She is flying out to San Hose Jose next week (and begging me to go…which would be fun only if someone would drive up from LA…hint, hint) and then coming home.

I received my final exam for El stats today. I have until next Thursday to turn it in!

good times.

This morning was full of old memories. Chris and Keylla flew in from CA yesterday and they were at church this morning along with Damon and Staci who drove in from TN. Nick and Suzanne weren’t on call for once, and Wendy was there as well. It was like old times. The only bothersome thing was standing with all of my old friends who are now married couples…and being the single girl. I didn’t like it.

i will let go.

It took a friend reminding me last night of what I already knew down deep in my soul. At the beginning of the conversation I was in tears and justifying all that I wanted. However, he was quite blunt with me and challenged me to realize what God wants for my life is very different than what I’ve been clinging to. As Elizabeth Elliot said in Discipline: The Glad Surrender, “Choices will continually be necessary and- let us not forget- possible. Obedience to God is always possible. It is a deadly error to fall into the notion that when feelings are extremely strong we can do nothing but act on them.”

friendships are peculiar.

There are a variety of types and in most cases if any time elapses between the two friends then the relationship is somewhat awkward. You either 1.) Start over or 2.) Try to make up for lost time.

Jennifer Turner has been one of my closest friends that I’ve ever had. We met at the Shack and laughed and cried our way into a friendship. She has seen the absolute worst side of me and encouraged me when I have been down. Goodness…the memories of the Shack should be a completely different blog post! She was two years ahead of me and Candy and I went to her graduation and I have to say…I was so proud of her. She became an elementary school teacher and she’s been teaching for two years. We don’t talk that often because of our crazy schedules but when we find a moment to chat- it’s as though we’ve just picked up where we last left off.

Anyway…last night we talked and caught each other up on all that’s occurred in our lives. Then she dropped the bomb. At once I remembered my conversation with Charity one year ago this past May. Jennifer proceeded to tell me that she’s quitting her job and heading back to school. Seminary. God has been preparing her heart for over a year to yield her future to Him and to trust Him as He leads her into missions.

Wow. Two of my best friends are going to be involved in missions in some way.
